Mya Brown is an Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator of the BFA Acting program at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She teaches acting, directing, voice, movement, and Shakespeare. She is inspired to cultivate brave & consent-based acting spaces that celebrate a diversity of cultures and thought. Her training with Theatrical Intimacy Education, Intimacy Coordinators of Color, Intimacy Directors & Coordinators, and the National Council for Mental Wellbeing have provided a strong foundation for her work.
“I am a young, Black, cisgendered, heterosexual, asthmatic, female, who has encountered much racism, sexism, and ageism in my life. At first, I was naïve to it, then I was frightened by it, next I became curious about it, and now I am empowered to resist and combat it. Through my journey of resistance and warfare, I have made mistakes and had several victories. My failures have had the most lasting impressions, and my victories the most rewarding results. The ability to share my experiences and knowledge for the betterment of the greater community is my ultimate desire. I understand that standing in the gap for marginalized individuals can effect change; I take honor in advocating for others, it is my calling.”
Mya holds a BFA in Acting from Jacksonville University (FL) and an MFA in Acting from West Virginia University. You can follow her on Instagram and TikTok @myasturnnow.
